Dear P.S. 170 Parents and Guardians,

It is with great excitement and pride that I welcome you to the 2026–2027 school year at Public School 170, The Ralph A. Fabrizio School!

As we begin another exciting year together, I am reminded of what makes P.S. 170 such a special place—the incredible students who fill our classrooms with curiosity and energy, the dedicated staff who work tirelessly on their behalf, and the families who partner with us each and every day. Together, we have built a school community that is committed to excellence, opportunity, and the success of every child.

Located in the heart of Bay Ridge at 619 72nd Street, P.S. 170 has a rich history of serving generations of children and families. We are proud of the diverse community that makes up our school. Our students and families represent many cultures, languages, traditions, and backgrounds, and this diversity is one of our greatest strengths. It provides our children with opportunities to learn from one another, appreciate different perspectives, and grow as compassionate and respectful members of our community.

At P.S. 170, our commitment to providing a high-quality, rigorous, and engaging education for every student remains at the heart of all that we do. We continue to strengthen our instructional programs and provide students with a rich and well-rounded curriculum, including HMH Into Reading for English Language Arts, EnVision Mathematics, Amplify Science, and NYC Passport to Social Studies. Through these programs and the expertise of our teachers, we strive to develop strong readers, mathematicians, scientists, historians, critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and lifelong learners.

We also believe that educating the whole child extends far beyond the traditional classroom. Our students have opportunities to explore their interests and talents through programs such as Band, Chorus, Visual Arts, Dance, Reader’s Theater, Book Clubs, STEAM Clubs, basketball, our school newspaper, Yearbook Club, and a variety of after-school enrichment opportunities. We are also fortunate to partner with organizations such as the Intrepid Museum and Midori & Friends, providing our students with experiences that expand their learning beyond the walls of our school.

One of our greatest strengths is our strong and dedicated PTA. Our PTA plays an important role in bringing families together and creating meaningful experiences for our children. Throughout the year, the PTA sponsors and supports a variety of after-school activities, family events, enrichment opportunities, and community-building experiences. I strongly encourage all our families to participate in these activities whenever possible. Your involvement not only enriches your child’s experience at P.S. 170, but also helps build school community, strengthen relationships among families, and foster a tremendous sense of school pride. When our families come together, We Are 170!

Throughout the year, we look forward to bringing our school community together through our Cultural Festival, Family Festival, Family Nights, school concerts, art showcases, PTA-sponsored activities, parent workshops, and other family engagement events. These events provide wonderful opportunities for us to celebrate our students, showcase their talents and accomplishments, honor the many cultures and traditions represented at P.S. 170, and strengthen the partnership between home and school.

As we look ahead to the new school year, I am filled with optimism about all that we will accomplish together. Our school spirit and shared vision are captured in our theme:

When we work together—students, families, teachers, staff, administration, and our PTA—there is no limit to what our children can accomplish. We will continue to challenge our students to reach high, encourage them to discover their strengths, and provide them with the support they need to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

I am truly honored to serve as the principal of P.S. 170, and I look forward to getting to know our families and working alongside you throughout the year. Your partnership, support, and trust are essential to the success of our students and our school community.
