As we embark on the 2023-2024 academic year, we are excited to connect with you, share important information, and celebrate the exceptional community that is P.S. 170. Our school is a Bay Ridge Landmark located at 619 72nd Street, Brooklyn, NY 11209.
At P.S. 170, we take immense pride in our diverse student population, which includes students of Arabic, Chinese, Latino, White, and many other ethnic backgrounds. Our commitment to embracing this diversity creates an inclusive and vibrant learning environment for all.
This year, we are introducing an enriched curriculum to provide your child with a top-notch education. We will be implementing “Into Reading” for English language arts, “enVision” for mathematics, “Core Knowledge” for Science, and “NYC Passport to Social Studies” for social studies. These innovative resources will equip our students with the skills they need to excel academically.
P.S. 170 is renowned for being the only Side-by-Side Mandarin Dual Language Program in District 20. This unique offering enriches our students’ cultural and linguistic experiences, making them well-rounded global citizens. It’s important to note that the Dual Language students’ impressive performance on the ELA and mathematics State Tests (78% and 98%, respectively), highlighting the dedication and the hard work of our teachers and students.
We understand the significance of a well-rounded education, which is why we offer a variety of enriching programs, such as the Junior Great Books program, band and chorus programs, the violin program, the Intrepid museum program, and the Midori and Friends program. Our commitment to nurturing your child’s talents and interests extends beyond the classroom.
In keeping with the ever-evolving world, we have equipped our school with state-of-the-art instructional technology. Every student at P.S. 170 has access to iPads and laptop computers, and all classrooms are equipped with interactive smart boards. This technology enhances the learning experience and prepares our students for the future.
Throughout the year, we host cultural festival, family festival, and many other parent involvement activities, creating opportunities for our diverse community to come together, build strong connections, and foster lasting friendships.
