Dear Parents,

I'm writing to inform you about several important events and initiatives taking place in October.

  1. Book of the Month Reading Initiative
We're enhancing our Book of the Month program to promote in-depth reading. From October to June, teachers and administrators will select a monthly book and develop five discussion questions. Students will receive the book (which they can keep) and questions, with translations available in Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish. We encourage all parents, regardless of English proficiency, to discuss these questions with their children. At the end of each month, we'll host a discussion session that parents are invited to join.
  2. 15th Annual Family Festival
On Saturday, October 26, we'll be hosting our 15th Family Festival. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to enjoy various activities together. We look forward to seeing you there!
  3. Facility Improvements and Enrichment Programs
We're thrilled to announce two significant contributions to our school:
City Councilman Justin Brannan has allocated $1,000,000 for constructing a roof over our second-floor playground, allowing its use during inclement weather. He has also funded an after-school science enrichment program in partnership with the Intrepid Museum.
State Senator Iwen Chu has allocated $350,000 for building a school garden and purchasing new computers. We're immensely grateful for their support and commitment to enhancing our educational environment. For more information about our school, please visit www.ps170.net.

Sincerely,

Tony Wu
